다인의 오목 카페 guide

A strategy match against café owner Dain on a 13×13 Gomoku board: be first to line up five of your stones horizontally, vertically or diagonally. You play black and move first, Dain answers with white, and the Easy, Normal and Hard levels unlock only by winning. To avoid slips, a stone is placed with two presses on the same cell.

How to play

  1. Choose a difficulty and start. Only Easy is open at first; beating Easy unlocks Normal, and beating Normal unlocks Hard.
  2. Press an empty cell once to mark it, then press the same cell again or the Place button to play the stone. Pressing a different cell moves the selection there.
  3. On a keyboard, move with the arrow keys, pick and confirm with Enter or Space, and cancel a selection with Escape. On a gamepad, move with the D-pad and pick and confirm with A.
  4. After your stone, Dain plays white a moment later. Five or more in a row ends the game on the spot, and if all 169 cells fill up it is a draw.
  5. A win scores 1,000 plus 4 for every empty cell left, and a draw scores 300. The fewer moves you need to win, the higher the score.

Strategy tips

  • Dain first takes any cell that wins immediately, then blocks any cell that would complete your five. A single line is easy to block, so build double threats that leave another line open after the block.
  • A three with both ends open becomes an open four on the next move, which cannot be stopped. Block one end of Dain's open threes as soon as they appear.
  • Lines along the edge are blocked on one side and make weak threats. Keep your first few stones near the centre so they can grow in all four directions.
  • There are no restrictions on moves that create two lines at once, such as double threes or a four-three. Look for cells that make two open threes in a single move.
  • On Hard, Dain looks further ahead before answering. Practise double threats on Normal before taking it on.

Common questions

I drew but the next difficulty did not unlock.

Only a win unlocks the next level. A draw records 300 points but does not open a new difficulty.

Does a line of six or more count as a win?

Yes. Any line of five or more wins, and there are no forbidden-move rules such as banning double threes. The same rules apply to Dain.

Can I take back a stone?

Placed stones cannot be undone. That is why the first press only marks the cell and the stone is placed by pressing it again or using Place. Before confirming, you can press another cell or cancel with Escape.

What happens if I leave mid-game?

The game in progress is saved in this browser. When you return you can continue the same board at the same difficulty.
