Nessa's Bubble Reef Defense guide

Help marine engineer Nessa build devices on six pads beside a current and stop the bubbles drifting toward the coral core. Each bubble is wrapped in several layers, and popping one layer leaves a thinner, slightly faster bubble that keeps coming, so the core of the game is splitting the work between devices for thin and thick shells. The default mode is a ten-wave campaign across four zones, ending with a five-layer crown bubble.

How to play

  1. The campaign starts with a level 2 Pearl Repeater already on the first pad and 156 pearls, the currency used for building. After a 3-second preparation, the wave starts automatically.
  2. Choose a device (keys 1, 2, 3) and tap an empty pad to build it. The Pearl Repeater costs 48 pearls, the Vortex Tuner 70 and the Coral Crusher 92.
  3. Tap a built device to select it, then upgrade it (U, up to level 4) or recall it (X) for a partial refund.
  4. Every layer you pop earns pearls, and holding a wave pays 34 pearls plus 3 times the wave number. Press Q or Enter during preparation to launch early and collect a small bonus for the time left.
  5. Each bubble that reaches the end of the current damages the 12-point coral core, and the operation fails when the core is gone. Take apart the crown bubble of wave 10 with the core still standing to win.

Strategy tips

  • The Pearl Repeater deals 1.28 times damage to thin shells of two layers or fewer, and the Coral Crusher 1.4 times to thick shells of three or more. The Repeater and Tuner aim at the leading bubble, while the Crusher aims at the thickest bubble in range.
  • Armoured bubbles (◆) take only 40% damage from anything but the Coral Crusher. Build a Crusher before wave 4, where they first appear.
  • Regenerating bubbles (+) refill their shell if left unhit for a while, and splitting bubbles (◐) burst into two small bubbles when their last layer pops. Keep a device near the end of the current to mop up the fragments.
  • Resonance (R) strikes the six to eight leading bubbles at once and briefly slows them. It recharges every 15 seconds and refills as soon as a wave ends, so use it freely every wave.
  • A bubble with four or more layers left costs the core 2 points when it leaks, and if the crown bubble reaches the core the operation fails even with core points left. Before the final wave, slow it with Vortex Tuners and upgrade your Coral Crushers.

Common questions

When do the special bubbles appear?

Swift bubbles (») first mix in at wave 3, armoured bubbles (◆) at wave 4, regenerating bubbles (+) at wave 5 and splitting bubbles (◐) at wave 6. Each carries its own symbol, so you can tell them apart by shape rather than colour.

How much do I get back when I recall a device?

You get 68% of its build cost plus 46% of the build cost for every upgrade level. A level 1 Pearl Repeater, for example, returns 33 pearls.

What happens to my progress if I reload?

The campaign saves a checkpoint each time a wave begins. When you return you restart from the beginning of the last wave you started, with your devices, pearls, core and score intact.

What is the Quick mode?

A practice mode that plays a single wave and then shows the result. Your ready-built pearl device attacks automatically, adding another Pearl Repeater to an empty pad is optional, and your campaign save is left untouched.
