Hana's Clockwork Workshop guide

Tap clockmaker Hana's workbench to build wind-up toys, then spend the coins on helpers and machines until the workshop runs itself. Six tiers of producers, from the Apprentice to the Starlight automaton, earn coins every second, and a sheet of twelve work orders points you to one next goal at a time. Once a single workshop has earned 1M coins, a star promotion lets you start fresh with a permanent boost to all production.

How to play

  1. Tap or click the workbench. Every press makes coins. Space, Enter or a gamepad's A button also work.
  2. On the Helpers tab, start by hiring an Apprentice for 15 coins. Owning one of a machine reveals the next, and each extra copy costs 15% more. Number keys 1-6 buy directly, and the ×1/×10 switch sets the amount.
  3. The Upgrades tab offers one-time boosts that unlock as you meet their conditions: double tap output, add 2% of your per-second rate to every tap, or double a specific machine.
  4. After the first order, a golden gear shows up now and then. Tap it within about ten seconds, or press G (gamepad Y), for a large bonus.
  5. Finish the orders on the Orders tab in sequence to collect coin rewards. The final order is your first star promotion.
  6. When this workshop has earned 1M coins you can promote. Confirming resets coins, helpers, machines and upgrades, and every star gear you gain permanently adds 10% to all production.

Strategy tips

  • Owning 10, 25 and 50 of a machine unlocks its tune-up upgrades, each doubling that machine's output. Push your biggest machine to those thresholds.
  • A golden gear pays the larger of 40 times your per-second rate or 25 taps. It is worth the most right after you have boosted production.
  • Catching your first golden gear unlocks the Gold magnet upgrade (15,000 coins). With it, gears appear every 30-60 seconds instead of 45-90 and stay four seconds longer.
  • A promotion grants the square root of this workshop's earnings divided by 1M: 1 star gear at 1M, 2 at 4M, 3 at 9M. If production is still climbing fast, earning a bit more before promoting pays off.
  • Early on, tap the bench 15 times and buy the 60-coin Sturdy wrench before hiring lots of apprentices. It doubles your tap output immediately.

Common questions

Do coins build up while the game is closed?

Yes. While the game is closed or paused, coins accumulate at half your normal per-second rate for up to eight hours, and you are told how much was made when you return. The workshop saves automatically.

What do I keep after a star promotion?

Star gears, finished orders, lifetime earnings, your tap count and your golden-gear catches carry over. Coins, helpers, machines and upgrades start over, and a confirmation dialog appears before you promote.

Why can't I see the next machine?

You need at least one of the machine just before it. For example, the Spring winder appears only after you own a Gear press.

Can I wipe everything and start over?

Choosing restart opens a dialog warning that coins, helpers, machines, upgrades, orders and star gears will all be erased, and a new workshop opens only after you press Erase and start. It cannot be undone, so choose carefully.
