Octa's Mine Crasher guide

Help mine boss Octa fire whole volleys of drill balls to break numbered mineral blocks. In a mine seven columns wide, you aim once and every ball you own launches at the same angle one after another, bouncing off the walls, ceiling and blocks and chipping one off a block's number with each hit. After every volley the blocks sink a row, so you must break through the stage's whole vein before any block reaches the bottom row.

How to play

  1. Pick a stage and you start with one drill ball. Press and drag to bring up the aim line, or turn the angle with ←→ on a keyboard.
  2. Release, or press Fire (Space), to launch every ball you own. Drag below the launcher before releasing to cancel the shot.
  3. A block's number is its remaining toughness; each hit takes off one, and it breaks at zero. Passing through a ring (+1) adds a ball from the next volley.
  4. When every ball has returned, the blocks sink a row and a new row appears at the top. Your next launch point moves to where the first ball landed.
  5. A block on the bottom row ends the dig. Once all of the stage's rows have arrived (10 on stage 1 up to 28 on stage 12), break every remaining block to clear it.
  6. Finishing in fewer turns earns more stars. Clearing stage 4 opens the daily vein, which changes every day.

Strategy tips

  • Rings are the only way to grow your ball count for good. Early on, an angle that collects a ring is worth more than breaking a few extra blocks.
  • Send balls into the open space above the block rows and they bounce between the ceiling and the blocks, hitting many times in one volley. Look for gaps between blocks to get them up there.
  • A breaking bomb block destroys every block in the eight cells around it regardless of their numbers. If a tough block sits next to a bomb, go for the bomb first.
  • Steel blocks are twice as tough as normal blocks from the same row, and gem blocks pay three times the score of a normal block when broken.
  • Volleys speed up on their own after 2.5 seconds, and the Fast button or F key speeds them up further. On a gamepad it is the X button.

Common questions

When exactly does a block count as reaching the floor?

Right after every ball returns and the rows sink, the dig ends if any block sits on the bottom row. A ring on the bottom row does not count.

How are stars decided?

Finish within the vein's row count plus 6 turns for three stars, within plus 12 turns for two, and anything longer earns one. Stage 1 has 10 rows, so three stars there means 16 turns or fewer.

Can I fire at a very low angle?

You cannot fire almost flat along the floor; the shot must point at least 8 degrees upward. Use the walls to bank shots back toward the other side.

How does scoring work?

Each hit on a block adds 1 point, and breaking a block adds its starting number × 10 (× 30 for gems). Stars carry the most weight in your cleared score.
