가람의 피아노 타일 guide

With jazz pianist Garam, press the black tiles falling down four lanes from the bottom up to play a whole song. Instead of matching a beat, every tile you press sounds the melody's next note, so pressing the right lane without missing plays the tune as written. There are eight songs, from Twinkle Twinkle to Canon, plus an Endless mode that strings every song together.

How to play

  1. Pick a song and start; the first tile waits near the bottom of the screen. Tiles only begin to fall once you press that first tile.
  2. Always press the lane of the lowest black tile left. Tap the lane on screen, use the D, F, J, K buttons below, or press D, F, J, K on the keyboard (also 1–4 or ←↑↓→).
  3. Double tiles at the end of a phrase need both lanes pressed before the next note plays. Pressing them with two fingers at once works fine.
  4. Pressing any other lane, or letting a tile slide off the bottom, is a miss. The third miss ends the performance.
  5. Press every tile in the song to clear it and unlock the next. Songs range from 42 tiles in Twinkle Twinkle to 96 in Canon. On a gamepad, the four D-pad directions and X, Y, B, A press the four lanes.

Strategy tips

  • Tiles speed up a little with every hit until they reach each song's top speed. Mountain King starts on the slow side but ramps up the most, ending as the fastest of the eight songs.
  • Lanes follow the melody, moving one or two lanes right when the note goes up and left when it goes down, and the same lane never appears three times in a row. If you know the song, the tune tells you where the next tile will be.
  • Pressing the lane of a tile that has not entered the screen yet is ignored rather than counted as a miss, but a wrong lane is an instant miss. Watch only the lowest tile and press accurately rather than rushing.
  • Before you press the first tile, other lanes do not count as misses. Settle your fingers over the four lanes before you begin.
  • Each tile scores 10 and finishing the song adds 100. A clear with no misses earns three stars, one miss two, two misses one.

Common questions

How does Endless work?

It strings the melodies of all eight songs together and keeps playing until your third miss. It unlocks after you clear Canon, and passing 30, 60 and 100 tiles earns one, two and three stars.

What if I press only one side of a double tile?

It waits with that lane marked as pressed; the note only advances when you press the other lane too. If the tile slides off the bottom in the meantime, it is a miss.

Why is the lane layout different each time for the same song?

The direction the lanes move follows the melody every time, but how far they move is decided fresh each run, so it pays to practise reading and reacting rather than memorising a layout.

What if I switch to another app mid-song?

Leaving the screen pauses the performance and saves that moment on the device. When you come back, you can continue from the paused state.
