새봄의 얼티밋 틱택토 guide

Play ultimate tic-tac-toe with board game host Saebom. Nine small tic-tac-toe boards make up one large board, and the cell you play in a small board decides which small board your opponent must play next. Claim small boards and line up three of them on the large board to win against a Novice, Skilled or Master opponent.

How to play

  1. You are X and move first. The boards you may play in glow on the board map, and choosing one shows it enlarged on the play board.
  2. Tap an empty cell on the play board to move. Arrow keys move between cells and Enter or Space plays; a gamepad uses the D-pad and A.
  3. If you play the top-right cell, your opponent must play in the top-right small board. If that board is already won or full, they may play in any open board.
  4. Three in a row inside a small board claims it. A small board that fills up with no line belongs to nobody.
  5. Claim three small boards in a line on the large board to win; if no move remains, the game is a draw. A win unlocks the next opponent level.

Strategy tips

  • Sending your opponent to a finished board lets them play anywhere open. Each time you pick a cell, check whether the matching small board is still in play.
  • Lines on the large board matter more than any single small board. If your opponent holds two boards in a line, avoid cells that send them to the third.
  • Undo (Z) takes back the computer's reply and your last move together. Each use costs 40 points from a winning score and caps a win at two stars.
  • The computer always plays the same move in the same position. Remember how a lost game went, restart, and try a different move at the earlier turning point.

Common questions

How is the score calculated?

A win scores 1,000 minus 6 per move made by either side and 40 per undo (at least 200), plus 30 per small board you claimed. A draw scores 300 plus 30 per board, and a loss 40 per board you claimed.

How are stars awarded?

A win without undo earns three stars, a win after using undo two, and a draw two. Even in a loss you get one star if you claimed at least one small board.

How different are the opponent levels?

From Novice to Skilled to Master the computer looks further ahead before each move. Beating Novice opens Skilled, and beating Skilled opens Master.

Can I pick up a game later?

The move record is saved on this device after every move. Reopening the game restores the same position, paused, and leaving the tab pauses it automatically.
