Mochi Bento guide

Pack chef Mochi's bento boxes without a single gap, using food pieces three to five cells long. The twenty boxes start with four 4-cell pieces in a 4×4 box and grow through dividers, rounded corners, five-cell pieces and an onigiri-shaped box up to eight-piece tiers. Every piece starts turned the wrong way, so rotating and flipping to find its spot is the heart of the game, and each box is cut from a real arrangement, so it can always be solved.

How to play

  1. Pick an unlocked box from the stage picker. Only the first box is open at the start, and finishing one opens the next.
  2. Choose a food piece from the tray below, then tap an empty cell in the box. The piece's top-left cell lands there; if it does not fit, the game looks for another spot that covers the tapped cell.
  3. Drag a piece over the box to preview it: green means it fits, red stripes mean it does not. Tap the selected piece again or press R to turn it a quarter turn.
  4. From box 9, 'Flip it', some pieces only fit mirrored, so use the Flip button or F. Brown divider cells must stay empty.
  5. Tap a placed piece to lift it out, press U to undo, or press H for a hint that places one piece correctly. The box is complete when every cell is filled.
  6. Keyboard: arrows move, Enter places, 1–8 pick a piece. Gamepad: D-pad moves, A places, B rotates, LB flips, RB next piece, X undo, Y hint, Start pauses.

Strategy tips

  • Three stars need no hints and exactly as many placements as there are pieces. Lifts and undos each count as a placement, so check the drag preview before letting go.
  • Hovering the mouse over an empty cell, or moving the keyboard cursor, shows where the piece would land if you tapped there. Getting it right the first time protects both stars and score.
  • Fill corners and the cells beside dividers first. If the empty space splits into small separate pockets, there may be no piece that fits them and you will have to lift something.
  • Score starts at 250 per piece, loses 40 for every extra placement and 120 per hint, and gains 200 for three stars. One hint costs as much as three extra placements.
  • A hint places the next piece when the box can still be finished, or lifts a placed piece that is blocking the solution. Try a new orientation or spot for the lifted piece first.

Common questions

When does the daily bento open?

It opens once box 5 is unlocked, which means finishing box 4. Each Korean calendar day builds a new box from one of the flip-era shapes, and the day's best stars and score are kept separately.

How are two stars and one star decided?

Use at most one hint and no more than four placements beyond the piece count for two stars. More placements or two or more hints still complete the box, with one star.

What is the difference between Undo and lifting a piece?

Lifting sends a placed piece back to the tray; Undo reverses your last placement, lift or hint, up to 30 steps back. Both add one to the placement count, and undoing never removes a used hint.

Do I lose my box if I leave?

Placements, orientations, moves and hints are saved after every change, so the same box comes back paused when you return. Restarting a box keeps your unlocked stages and best scores.
