올리의 단어 서재 guide

A daily word puzzle: sixteen words hide four groups of four. Some words are planted to look as if they fit two groups, so rushing a guess quickly costs mistakes. Today's puzzle is the same for everyone by Korea Standard Time, and there are 32 Korean and 32 English puzzles.

How to play

  1. Press Start and today's sixteen words appear in a 4×4 grid. The puzzle language follows the language chosen in the menu.
  2. Tap four words you think share a theme. On a keyboard move with the Arrow keys and choose with Enter or Space; on a gamepad use the D-pad and A.
  3. Submit (S, gamepad X). A correct group moves to the top with its colour and theme, and fill-in-the-blank or wordplay groups add a one-line explanation of the link. If three of your four are right, you are told you are one away.
  4. A wrong submission counts as one mistake. At four mistakes the remaining groups are revealed and the puzzle ends.
  5. When you find all four groups or run out of mistakes, the result screen appears. From there you can share or continue with Next puzzle today.

Strategy tips

  • If a theme seems to have five or more candidates, one of them belongs to another group. Submit the group you are surest of first to shrink the board.
  • Some groups are words that join the same word before or after them, and some are wordplay with a number or another word hidden inside. When meaning fails, look at sound and spelling.
  • After a one-away, swap just one of your four words and try again. Resubmitting the exact same four words is not counted as a mistake; you are only told you already tried it.
  • A win starts at 1,000 points and loses 150 per mistake and 100 per hint. When you are stuck, a hint (H, gamepad LB) costs less than a guess.
  • Shuffle (R, gamepad Y) rearranges the grid, which can break up familiar pairings and reveal new links.

Common questions

What does a hint show?

It puts a dashed border on one word from the easiest group you have not found yet and names that group's theme. You get two per puzzle.

What do the group colours mean?

Yellow is the easiest group and purple the hardest. Each colour also carries a circle, square, triangle or diamond mark, so groups stay distinguishable without relying on colour.

Is there only one puzzle a day?

Once today's puzzle is over, win or lose, you can keep going with Next puzzle today. A new daily puzzle opens when the date changes.

Does sharing my result give away the answers?

The shared text contains only coloured squares in the order you submitted, never the words, so it is safe to send to someone who has not played yet.
