Kazia's Pipe Works guide

Turn the pipe piece in each tile until the water from the central pump spreads across the whole board. The board is finished when every pipe end meets another and every tile is wet, and pipes the water reaches turn blue so you can see at a glance how far the network runs. There are nine boards from 4×4 to 7×9, three boards whose edges wrap around, and a daily board, and every board is built to be solvable.

How to play

  1. Pick a stage and the board appears with its pipes turned at random. The tile with the round pump is where the water starts.
  2. Each tap turns a pipe 90° clockwise. On a keyboard, move between tiles with the arrow keys, turn with Space or Enter, and press Q to turn back the other way. On a gamepad, A turns, X turns back, B locks and Y gives a hint.
  3. Long-press a tile you are sure of (right-click on PC, L on a keyboard) to lock it. Locked tiles ignore taps until you long-press them again.
  4. The board is solved when no pipe end is left open and every tile is wet. Finishing within the board's par earns more stars.
  5. Solving a board unlocks the next stage, and clearing stage 4 opens the daily board, a fresh 6×7 layout every day.

Strategy tips

  • On stages 1 to 9, no pipe end may point off the board. Settle and lock the corners and edges first, and the inner tiles quickly run out of options.
  • Two dead-end pieces (the tiles with a tap) joined face to face form an isolated pair the water can never reach. Always point a dead end toward a piece of another shape.
  • Par counts clockwise taps only. A tile that needs three clockwise turns can be fixed with a single Q (X on a gamepad) instead, saving two moves.
  • From stage 10 the board wraps: a pipe leaving the left edge enters on the right, and the top joins the bottom. With no edges to lean on, lock the tiles that clearly fit their neighbours first.
  • You get three hints per board, each turning one wrong tile into place and locking it. Hints do not add to your move count, but each costs 120 points and rules out three stars.

Common questions

How are stars and score decided?

Finish within par without hints for three stars, within 1.5 times par for two, and anything more for one. The score is 1,000 plus 10 per par move, minus 15 per move over par and 120 per hint, with a minimum of 100.

How many turns do straight and cross pieces need?

A straight piece looks the same after half a turn, so it has only two orientations, and a cross open on all four sides never changes at all. Those tiles rarely need attention, so focus on bends and T-pieces.

When does the daily board change?

A new board is generated when the date changes in Korea Standard Time. It unlocks after you clear stage 4, and your best stars and score for that day are recorded.

Is an unfinished board saved?

Any unfinished board you have turned at least once is saved on this device, including each tile's direction and lock, so you can continue later. A daily board only resumes on the same day.
